We have been working on a new Jazz standard. In a Sentimental Mood composed by Duke Ellington Lyrics Manny Kurtz. In a Sentimental Mood was composed and recorded in 1935 by the Duke Ellington Orchestra.
Wow ! imagine having your own orchestra to write for. Duke Ellington was a very sensitive and intuitive writer. He would write his music to suit the unique styles of the players in his band so his tunes are well worth while listening to in his original arrangements. Check him out here with an arrangement played with famous saxophonist John Coltrane Ellington Coltrane.
As well as creating a tutorial video for students. There are several performances to be posted on the channel Peter’s Practical Piano.
- Jazz piano performance of In A Sentimental Mood Performance Peter Feehane
- Jazz piano tutorial on In a Sentimental Mood Jazz piano tutorial
- To Be posted A Duet performance with my friend Liam George on Trombone.
- And I loved the tune so much, I have one more Jazz piano performance waiting in the wings
Our first new material for 2025. This is a great tune to learn. It has enabled the tutorial to explore and show you. CESH harmony, Alt dominant chords, useful arpeggio soloing tools, and more.
I hope you all enjoy,
Cheers Peter
